Adaptations we fit most often
Walk-in showers and bath-to-shower conversions cover most households. Where a wheelchair is involved, or where mobility is likely to deteriorate, a level access shower or full wet room is usually the right answer. We also fit smaller adaptations on their own — grab rails, raised toilet seats, high-rise WCs, lever taps and easy-access basins.
Every job is surveyed in your home. We don't quote off a phone call — bathroom layouts vary too much for that to be honest.
Working with occupational therapists
If you've had an OT visit and have a written recommendation, bring it to the survey. We'll quote against the specification line-by-line in the format your council needs. The grants officer can read it without translation, and there are no surprises during the install.

VAT relief and grants
VAT depends on the circumstances: qualifying work in the private home of a disabled or chronically sick person, where it is necessary because of their condition, can be zero-rated under HMRC rules. Certain installed mobility aids can qualify for 5% VAT for customers aged 60 or over. General bathroom improvements are standard-rated. We confirm which rate applies to your job in the written quotation. Where it applies we handle the eligibility declaration. Grant funding is separate: eligibility, the level of any grant and the process vary by council and by whether you own or rent, and an assessment of need is generally involved. South Lanarkshire Council, for example, currently states that eligible disabled adaptations follow an occupational therapy assessment and that mandatory grant is normally 80%, rising to 100% in some cases — other councils differ, so check with yours.

What is involved in adapting a bathroom for a disabled person?
The starting point is how the person actually uses the room: how they get in, whether they stand, sit or transfer, which side they lead with, and whether a carer is involved. From that comes the layout — usually a level-access or low-threshold shower, grab rails fixed into solid backing on the sides that are actually reached for, a fold-down or free-standing seat, slip-resistant flooring, a comfort-height WC, lever taps and a thermostatic anti-scald valve.
Can the bathroom still look like a normal bathroom?
Yes, and we design it that way as standard. Modern rails, screens, seats and flooring can be specified so the room reads as a well-finished bathroom rather than a clinical one, while still doing the safety job properly.
How does the survey and quotation process work?
It starts with a free home survey. We look at the actual bathroom, ask who will use it and how they move, check the floor, walls, waste run and water supply, and talk through the realistic options. You then get a written, itemised quotation with the specification, the VAT position and the agreed schedule set out in it. Nothing is booked until you accept the quotation, and there is no obligation at any stage.
How long does the work take?
The schedule depends on the bathroom — the layout, the floor construction, whether the waste has to move, and the finish you choose. Rather than quote a generic number of days, we confirm the start date and the working schedule in writing in your quotation, after the survey, so you know exactly what to plan around.
Do I have to go through the council, or can I pay privately?
You can arrange and pay for the work with us directly. Council help in Scotland runs through each council's Scheme of Assistance and follows an assessment of need; eligibility, the level of any grant and the process vary by council and by whether you own or rent. If a council grant is involved, we can provide the quotation in the format your council asks for. VAT depends on your circumstances and we confirm the applicable rate in the quotation.

No — you can self-fund the work, or use it to top up a council grant if one is awarded. If you do have an OT recommendation we'll quote against it; if you don't, we'll advise based on the home survey.
