Designed around real bathrooms, not showroom layouts
Most Scottish bathrooms weren't designed for a walk-in shower. Tight corners, awkward stud walls, soil pipes in the wrong place — we work around all of it. Every survey is done in your home, and the quote you receive accounts for the exact bathroom you have, not a generic template.
Where space is limited we'll often suggest a quadrant or offset-quadrant tray. Where the existing bath enclosure already gives us a good footprint, a low-profile rectangular tray with a single glass screen is usually the cleanest result.
Safety features that actually get used
A walk-in shower is only safer if the safety features fit how you move. We don't bolt grab rails on as an afterthought. During the survey we'll talk through how you transfer, where you'd naturally reach, and whether a fold-down seat would help or just get in the way.
We specify anti-slip trays rated R10 or better, toughened safety glass screens, and a thermostatic mixer valve to guard against scalding on every install.
Funding through your local council
If the work is being arranged through an occupational therapist or your local council's Scheme of Assistance, we'll provide a written quote in the format the council needs — itemised, matching the OT's specification, and ready for submission. Eligibility, the level of any grant and the process vary by council and by tenure, and follow an assessment of need — South Lanarkshire Council, for example, currently states that mandatory grant is normally 80%, rising to 100% in some cases. Check the position with your own council.

What is involved in fitting a walk-in shower?
The old bath or enclosure comes out, the waste and supply pipework are reworked to suit the new position, and any wall that will carry a grab rail or seat is opened up and backed with solid timber. A slip-resistant low-profile tray goes in level and tested, the walls are tiled or panelled, a toughened-glass screen and a thermostatic anti-scald valve are fitted, then the room is sealed, cleaned and handed over with everything working.
Is a walk-in shower suitable for someone with reduced mobility?
Usually yes, provided they can safely lift a foot over a low tray lip and stand or transfer onto a seat. If a foot lift is unreliable, a wheelchair or a shower chair on castors is used, or a carer assists the transfer, a level-access shower or wet room is the better fit. We give you a straight answer at the survey rather than selling the more expensive option by default.
How does the survey and quotation process work?
It starts with a free home survey. We look at the actual bathroom, ask who will use it and how they move, check the floor, walls, waste run and water supply, and talk through the realistic options. You then get a written, itemised quotation with the specification, the VAT position and the agreed schedule set out in it. Nothing is booked until you accept the quotation, and there is no obligation at any stage.
How long does the work take?
The schedule depends on the bathroom — the layout, the floor construction, whether the waste has to move, and the finish you choose. Rather than quote a generic number of days, we confirm the start date and the working schedule in writing in your quotation, after the survey, so you know exactly what to plan around.
Do I have to go through the council, or can I pay privately?
You can arrange and pay for the work with us directly. Council help in Scotland runs through each council's Scheme of Assistance and follows an assessment of need; eligibility, the level of any grant and the process vary by council and by whether you own or rent. If a council grant is involved, we can provide the quotation in the format your council asks for. VAT depends on your circumstances and we confirm the applicable rate in the quotation.

Will I lose the use of my bathroom for the whole time?▾
Usually only for two or three of those days. We sequence the work so you have a working toilet for most of the install.
Can a walk-in shower be fitted in place of an existing bath?▾
Yes — bath-to-shower conversion is one of the most common jobs we do. The existing waste and supply pipes can often be reused, which the survey confirms.
Are walk-in showers covered by VAT relief?▾
It depends on the circumstances. HMRC allows zero-rating where the shower is supplied and installed in the private home of a disabled or chronically sick person and is necessary because of their condition. Customers aged 60 or over who are not disabled may instead qualify for the reduced 5% rate on certain installed mobility aids. A general bathroom upgrade is standard-rated. We confirm the correct rate, and handle any eligibility declaration, at quotation stage.
