East Kilbride is inside our core Lanarkshire service area. The town is unusual in Scotland because so much of it was built to a plan: the new-town estates at Calderwood, Westwood, Murray and The Village share a fairly small number of bathroom layouts, typically a compact upstairs bathroom with a full-size bath along one wall and lightweight stud partitions. Those partitions are the detail that matters on an adaptation — they are easy to open up and back with timber or a plywood pattress so grab rails and a shower seat can be fixed into something solid rather than into board. Where a bath-to-shower conversion reuses the existing waste position, it is usually the least disruptive route. The bungalows and later developments around Stewartfield and the southern edge of the town more often have a ground-floor bathroom with room for a level-access shower or a wet room, and on a ground floor the drainage fall is generally easier to accommodate than on an upper timber floor. We survey the floor construction before quoting either way.
